Barbara Jean Herman, age 90, passed away on January 8, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born on February 14, 1934, to Michael and Marie (Brezina) Herman in Chicago, Illinois.
Barbara had many memories of Chicago, such as exploring Lincoln Park, getting ice cream with her dad and missing her big brother. Her father passed away at a young age, so the family moved to Boyceville to reunite with her brother Don and her Brezina family. Barbara graduated from Boyceville High School in 1952.
After high school, she went to Minneapolis to work and met her lifelong friend, Phyllis. They both decided to pack their belongings and move to the big city of Milwaukee in search of employment and excitement.
Barbara would continue her career at M&I Bank, retiring in 1995, after 40 years of dedicated employment. Barbara enjoyed living in Milwaukee, especially when her four nieces would come to visit. She wanted to share the highlights of her favorite city with them. Their adventures took them to Milwaukee Bucks games, Milwaukee Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and of course the chocolate and ice cream shops.
Barbara had a soft spot for all animals. She volunteered at Dunn County Humane Society after she retired and enjoyed every minute of it.
Barbara is survived by her nieces: Lori (Joe) Shervey, Heidi (Michael) Olson, Kari (Terry) Sand, and Darci (John) Fredrickson, great nieces and nephews; Nicole (Winston) Nelson, Ashley (Trevor) Cady, Megan (Corey) Steinkraus, Jake (Michelle) Shervey, Ben (Haily) Sand, Allison (Don) Darrah, Nicolas Olson and Jacqueline (Cory Bergevin) Olson, and 12 great great nieces and nephews. She loved seeing all the new little ones and she prayed the world would be a better place for them.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Marie Herman, brother Donald Herman, sister-in-law Rayola Herman and many other family members she truly loved.
A memorial graveside service will be scheduled later this spring at the Tiffany Cemetery in Boyceville, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Barbara’s honor to Dunn County Humane Society, Stepping Stones in Menomonie or Christ Lutheran Church.
