When Barbara Bauer-Chen and her family moved to Menomonie from Virginia two years ago, they noticed that their new hometown lacked a candy store. They had the idea in the back of their minds that it would be fun to open one. When the pandemic struck they were looking for something that would spread a little joy and decided it was time to act. Thus, C&J's Candy Store was born, opening this past July next to the former Chamber office on Main Street.
Barbara and her husband John are retired from the military, have traveled extensively and lived in Japan for a time. They knew they wanted to include candy that couldn’t be found anywhere else and decided to stock sweets from all over the globe. Currently they have items from over 50 different countries.
“Living overseas we were able to explore a lot of different cultures and it’s fun for us to be able to share some of that with Menomonie” Bauer-Chen said.
They also carry a wide selection of retro candy. The more popular items include Candy Buttons, Zotz and Black Taffy. Requests and special orders are welcome. “One of the most rewarding things is when a customer comes in looking for a particular candy and I can say I have it,” Bauer-Chen said, “It makes my day when I can make someone else happy.”
If you are looking for a fun gift idea, custom bundles and candy bouquets are available at a wide range of prices.
C&J's Candy Store is open Sunday through Thursday from 11-5 and Friday and Saturday from 11-7. Curbside pick-up is available.
The address is 342 Main Street E and their phone number is 715-308-7732. More information can be found on the C&J's Candy Store Facebook page and website.
