Carl Norval Wallace, age 87 of Glenwood City, Wisconsin died at home January 24, 2025 of heart failure.
Carl was born on August 16, 1937 in Miles City, Montana, the son of Miles and Ida Ziegele Wallace. Carl was eight years old when his Dad died. His Mom later married Allen McPhail. He grew up in Jordan, Montana, and attended grade through high school there.
He was married to his high school sweetheart Patricia Eileen Haney on February 17, 1957. They would have celebrated 68 years of marriage in three weeks.
They were blessed with three daughters, Marcia, Mona and Janice.
Soon after graduating from High School he began working for the ASCS office, now known as the Farm Service Agency. He became office manager in Great Falls, Montana when he was 19 years old and retired after 26 years of service. He later worked for Professional Farm Systems. He injured his back during that time and after surgery he was not physically able to work at a regular job for a few years. He and Pat went to Solvang, California and were trained to make Dip and Carve candles. They did that together for about 11 years. They carved candles in malls, fairs, Handcrafters Gift Gallery in Great Falls, Montana, and had a candle store in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Later he became a Realtor and pursued that occupation for 15 years. In 2012 they moved from Great Falls, Montana to Glenwood City, Wisconsin in order to be closer to one of their children.
Carl came to saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in 1966. He enjoyed teaching a high school Sunday school class for several years. He served on several Church Boards and the Great Falls Rescue Mission Board. He and Pat were blessed to be asked by a missionary friend to spend some time in Indonesia teaching candle making to some of the nationals so they could make a better living for themselves and support their churches. They also spent three months each year for four years overseeing the running of a missionary guest house compound in Panajachel, Guatemala with Central American Mission.
Carl liked hunting, but when he could no longer climb hills, prairie dog shooting took its place. He loved working on guns and did all his own reloading. Many people commented that he knew so much about a lot of subjects, but it was because he read a lot, was interested in all kinds of things, and always remembered what he read.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Pat, and daughters, Marcia Wallace, Lewes, Delaware; Mona (Steve) James, Downing, Wisconsin; Janice Butler, Crossville Tennessee; Grandchildren Phillip (Rachel) James; Amy (Eric) Nofsinger; four great grandchildren Ella and Anderson Nofsinger and Abigail and Eddie James; one sister Kathleen (Jim) Severance and half-brother Ray (Jan) McPhail.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gilbert Wallace and two sisters Joyce Wallace and Alice Graham and her husband Paul, and a son-in-law Charles Butler.
Carl's memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home (615 Wilson Ave. Menomonie, WI 54751) with Pastor Mark Williams and Pastor Chris Ames officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
