Clarence E. Evjen of Menomonie, WI passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025. He unexpectedly fell seriously ill on Sunday, March 16 and passed away while in critical care at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Clarence was born on October 18, 1948 in Williston, ND to Halgrim Evjen and Margaret (Moe). He grew up in Williston and graduated from Williston High School in 1966. He went to college at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND and received a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1970. After graduating he was hired as a Research and Development Chemist at PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, PA. During his three years with PPG Clarence and a colleague invented two different non-pollution coatings and received a patent for each. He decided, after this success, to leave PPG and pursue other environmental issues. In 1973 he enrolled at the University of Minnesota and received a Master of Science in Public Health in 1975.
While at the University of Minnesota he found what would become his passion for the rest of his life. That was Transcendental Meditation (TM). In 1974 he was trained to be a TM teacher and that became his occupation. Clarence believed that TM can help people release stress and, as a result, have a more peaceful existence.
Sadly in 2017 Clarence was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He suffered tremendously from the effects of the disease, but he remained upbeat and positive while fighting the disease. Even more sadly, the last year of his life he suffered from the effects of dementia.
Clarence was a wonderful person with a great personality. He touched the lives of many people. He will be deeply missed.
Clarence is survived by his sister Selma Levno of Sidney, MT, and brother Harry of Menomonie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Halgrim and Margaret; two brothers Helmer and Leland; a sister Lillian.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Stephen Hilding officiating.
