The Dunn County Constitutional Officers who were elected on November 5, 2024, have officially been sworn in to start their new terms of office. Constitutional Officers are elected officials who are listed in the Wisconsin State Constitution, and each has their own sections of the Wisconsin State Statutes that dictate their positions.
Judge James Peterson, the senior ranking judicial officer in Dunn County (first elected in 2014), administered the oath of office for Dunn County Treasurer Lynn Niggemann, Dunn County Clerk Andrew Mercil, Dunn County Register of Deeds Heather M. Kuhn, and Dunn County District Attorney Andrea Nodolf. Their new four-year terms start on January 6th, 2025, and go through January 1, 2029.
Niggemann, who was appointed to the position of Dunn County Treasurer in May of 2024, and Mercil, who was appointed to the position of Dunn County Clerk in May of 2021, both appeared on the ballot for the first time, though they have been serving fully as constitutional officers in their respective since the time of their appointment. Kuhn, the senior elected constitutional officer in Dunn County, appeared on the ballot for the 4th time, having first been elected in 2012, whereas Nodolf, who was appointed in 2014, appeared on the ballot for the 3rd time since her appointment.
Niggemann, Mercil, Kuhn, and Nodolf were joined by Dunn County Clerk of Court Katie Schalley (appointed in 2017 and elected first in 2018) and Dunn County Sherriff Kevin Bygd (elected first in 2018), representing all Dunn County Constitutional Officers.
Note from the Menomonie Minute - the Clerk of Court and the County Sheriff are elected every four years, but in the off-year election. (An off-year election is an election that takes place in a year that is not a presidential election year.)
