Eldon W. Larson

Eldon W. Larson, age 96, of Menomonie passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at his home surrounded by his wife of 76 years and his family.

He was born on April 24, 1928 in the town of Dunn to Palmer and Mary (Tuttle) Larson. His family moved several times having him grow up in the Mondovi/Drammen area, then moving to Town of Dunn where he met and married his life partner, Anita Bertelson.

Eldon and Anita were married August 14, 1948 and began their married life with Eldon farming and working at farm implement dealership. Eldon and Anita moved to Anita’s family farm in the town of Menomonie where they farmed with Andrew and Anna Bertelson until Andrew’s death when they purchased the farm and raised a family of four children.

In 1966 they sold the farm and moved into Menomonie where Eldon continued to work at farm implement dealerships until he retired and started his own alternator and starter repair business, Larson Auto Electric. In 1993 Eldon and Anita moved to Shawano where they resided until 2002. They returned to Menomonie and took up residence in Dunn Ridge Estates where they remain today.

Eldon loved his wife and family more than anything else. However, he enjoyed working in his “shop” doing his woodworking making wooden bowls, tables, and small furniture. Eldon was self-taught running his wood lathe where he produced many beautiful bowls and other items. Eldon and Anita enjoyed traveling with their Airstream friends, fishing, working outside in his yard and hanging out at the cabin in Turtle Lake.

Eldon is survived by his wife of 76 years Anita (Bertelson); four children: Kate (Bruce) Donicht of Menomonie, WI, Barb (Stephen) Herber of Wausaukee, WI, Steve Larson of Menomonie, WI and Sue (Fred) Peterson of Lakeville, MN; fifteen grandchildren: Jodi, Chad (Ashley), Lindsey and Aaron (Miranda) Matthew (Malina), Jacquelynne (Shipley), Tamara (Kevin) and Mariah (Jill) Seth (Karri), Jenna (Adam), Taylor, Lucas, and Andrew Sarah (Mitchell), and Bradley (Kaylee); thirty-three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Janet (Vaughn) Husby; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Mary (Tuttle) Larson, mother-in-law Anna Bertelson, brother Arnold Larson, brother-in-law Richard Bertelson, son-in-law Bruce Donicht, great-grandson Issac.

Anita and the family wish to express their appreciation to St. Croix Hospice (Kim and Brittany), all of the friends and family who have sent cards, called or have stopped by to support us. A special thanks to Pastor George for providing comfort through visits and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials sent to a charity of the donor’s choice or to New Life Lutheran Church in Eldon’s name.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025 at New Life Church in Menomonie, WI with Pastor George Schrader officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at Christ Lutheran/Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
