Federal Grand Jury indicts Menomonie man

A federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison, returned the following indictment yesterday. You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation, and a person named as defendant in an indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Demetrius Howard, 34, Menomonie, Wisconsin, is charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon. The indictment alleges that on December 20, 2024, Howard possessed a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun and ammunition.

If convicted, Howard faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

The charge against Howard is the result of a traffic stop initiated by a Dunn County Sheriff's Office Deputy and subsequent investigation and vehicle search. Follow up investigation was completed by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan is handling the case.
