Individual pulled from lake in boating incident

On Saturday April 6, 2024, at approximately 9:46 a.m., the Dunn County Communication Center received a 911 call reporting that on Lake Menomin, near the Fish and Game boat landing, an un-manned boat was spinning in circles and the male operator had fallen into the water.

The Menomonie Police Department, Menomonie Fire Department, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, UW Stout Police Department and the Wisconsin DNR all responded to the incident.  An unresponsive male was located in Lake Menomin and pulled to shore by officers, at which time CPR was begun.   The Menomonie Fire Department arrived, and lifesaving efforts continued.  The Menomonie Fire Department transported the victim to Mayo Menomonie, where he was eventually airlifted to an Eau Claire hospital.

The initial investigation showed that the male was alone on the boat, and he had been observed putting his boat in the water a short time before the 911 call was received.   The boat was safely retrieved and removed from the water.

The victim’s name will not be released at this time to respect the privacy of the family and the ongoing investigation into this incident.

The Menomonie Police Department would like to thank the Menomonie Fire Department, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, UW Stout Police Department, and the Wisconsin DNR for their assistance with this incident.
