James Lockie

James (Jim) Lockie, 62, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI due to complications from a stroke.

Jim was born October 18, 1962 in Riceville, Iowa as the youngest of four children to his parents Reed L. and Jene A. (Miskimins) Lockie. Growing up in rural Iowa, Jim spent his formative years on family farms. He shared in the family’s love of horses, riding ponies down the farm lanes and competing in barrel and reining horse events. When the family moved to Cresco, Iowa, Jim worked alongside his parents on the family farm and was active in school activities participating in band, choir, football, basketball, and track. He was also a member of 4-H and FFA for many years. Jim graduated from Crestwood High School in 1981.

Jim attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he graduated in 1985 with a degree in agricultural business. Jim spent the majority of his career working in consumer and mortgage lending. He worked for several financial institutions, most notably Westconsin Credit Union, Bank Mutual, and most recently Dairy State Bank in Menomonie WI. He was also a member of the Menomonie Ambassadors.

In 1992, Jim met the love of his life, Lisa Danner, and they married on September 8, 2000 at Osseo United Methodist church in Osseo, Minnesota. Jim and Lisa proceeded to make Elmwood, WI their home.

Jim’s passion was boating. He and Lisa enjoyed spending time with family and friends boating on the Mississippi, sipping cocktails, and watching the sunsets over the water. Being on the boat was Jim’s “happy place.”

Jim’s greatest attribute was helping others. Whether it was helping on the neighboring farms in Iowa, helping the first time home buyer purchase their first home, or helping fellow boaters fix mechanical issues or guiding them into a boat slip, Jim was a kind soul who was always willing to help when needed. In his final act on earth, he made the ultimate sacrifice to donate his organs so that others may continue to live.

Jim is survived by his wife Lisa of Elmwood, WI; brother Gordon (Jeanine) Lockie of Elma, IA; sisters Deborah Van Arkel of Grinnell, IA and Maureen Lockie Shroyer of Decorah, IA: sister-in-laws Traci (Ken) Franko, Michele Johnson, and Heidi (Mike) Smith; brother-in-law Tom Shroyer; and his “fur baby” Josie. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Jene and Reed Lockie, Jr., grandparents Margaret and John Miskimins and Bernice and Reed Lockie, Sr., brother-in-law Craig VanArkel, mother and father-in-law Sharon and Jerry Danner.
