Lionel A. Kegen



Lionel A. Kegen age 89, of Boyceville, WI passed away Saturday, April 5th, 2025 at the Glenhaven nursing home in Glenwood City, WI.


Lionel was born March 26th, 1936 on the Irish Ridge in Stanton township to Charles Kegen and Agnes Kegen (Mathieson). He grew up in the Boyceville area, went to school at the Pleasant Dale country school, and then graduated from Boyceville High School in 1954. He married Mary Kegen (Harvey) on January 17th, 1959, and they were married for 63 years. They had 4 children together and farmed south of Boyceville on County Road K for over 60 years.


Lionel and Mary enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, which consisted of traveling, playing games, telling jokes and stories, and teaching them about farming. Lionel also enjoyed being outdoors, and hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren, and friends.


In addition to farming, he worked at the Boyceville Creamery and the Walmart DC. Lionel also worked at the Boyceville High School as a part-time custodian, which he retired from in his early 80s. Lionel was always known for his hard work ethic.


Lionel is survived by his daughter, Heidi Johnson (Kegen), his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who he adored greatly. Lionel is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and close friends. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jim Harvey, his sister-in-law Ardis Coomer and her husband Jerry Coomer.


He is preceded in death by his dad Charles, his mom Agnes, his wife Mary, his sons Jeff, Mike, and Tim, and his in-laws Robert and Caryol Harvey. He is also preceded in death by his brother LeRoy (Red), his sisters Charlotte, Eunice, Lucille, Marleys, and other relatives.


A celebration of life for Lionel will be held at a later date.
