The Menomonie girls cross country team earned a first-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota on September 22nd. The girls finished ahead of thirty-seven teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and California to take home the trophy.
Menomonie's Lauren McCalla finished 4th of 317 runners, while Brooklyn Hoff was 5th. Madison Lehman, Kyah Barnhart, and Sara Palmer finished 47th, 58th, 77th respectively to round out the scorers for Menomonie. Other runners for Menomonie were Joss Turner, Megan McMahon and Carly Weber.
The event is one of the premier events in the Midwest during the regular season of high school cross country. Highly ranked teams and individuals from at least eight different states compete, including multiple past state champions and national qualifiers.
The Menomonie boys cross country team finished 15th out of 38 teams. The boys were led by Evan Olson and Peter Cimino. Rounding out scorers for Menomonie were Jaime Ramos, Ben Bowman, and Grant Burns. Other runners competing were Owen Pelzel, Caleb Cameron, Luke Ray, Noah Winder, and Balian Viana.
