Menomonie High School to Present "Freaky Friday" the Musical

Menomonie High School is gearing up for its latest production, Freaky Friday, a heartfelt and comedic musical based on the novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films. The show will open on Friday, February 28th, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Leading the cast are Amelia Freeman as Katherine Blake and Chloe Renfree-Weiss as her daughter, Ellie. Freeman, a senior at Menomonie High, is performing in her fourth and final show at MHS. You may also recognize her as Elsa from the Menomonie Theater Guild’s production of Frozen. Renfree-Weiss, a seasoned performer, estimates that she has appeared in 28 shows at MHS, the Mabel Tainter, and other venues throughout the Chippewa Valley. Both young stars bring remarkable talent and powerful vocals to the show.

“This is a fun, fast-paced show - there’s always something happening,” said Freeman. “It has ended up being one of my favorite shows to work on.”

The story follows an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who mysteriously swap bodies. They have just one day to put things right before life spirals out of control. Through this magical day, the two discover a newfound appreciation for each other's challenges, learn important lessons about self-acceptance, and realize the deep love and respect that bonds them as mother and daughter.

“I really like the music for this show; it’s fun, hip, and engaging,” said Renfree-Weiss. “This is a show for everyone. We have a great cast, and it’s been a lot of fun to work on.”
