The Menomonie Optimist Club named Eleanor Wigdahl of Menomonie High School, as the May Youth of the Month. Optimists have been recognizing outstanding seniors from Dunn County’s four high schools for over 30 years.
Eleanor Wigdahl is a senior at Menomonie High School, where she has been a member of the Dance Team all four years and has served as team captain her junior and senior years. She was named all-conference Dance Soloist and has competed at state as well. Eleanor has also been a member of both choir and orchestra. She has been part of two honors orchestra festivals and one choir festival, and uses her musical skills in community service, both at her church and at community music events. Eleanor is a member of the National Honor Society and has many advanced placement credits. She also serves in a leadership role on the school’s Link Crew. Eleanor is the daughter of Heather and Matt Wigdahl, and plans to attend St. Olaf College, where she may major in English or Environmental Studies.
Menomonie Optimists also provide the Dictionary Project, which gives a dictionary to every third-grade student in Dunn County, have conducted work projects in conjunction with area schools at Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area, and host the Menomin Meander, a family-friendly and free bike ride around Lake Menomin each August.
