MPD investigates possible threat at Menomonie Middle School

On Monday, September 30, 2024, the Menomonie Police Department received multiple reports of a Snapchat message that was circulating, indicating a possible threat of a school shooting at the Menomonie Middle School on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Although the threat was determined not to be credible, a thorough investigation of the incident took place, and the School District of Menomonie notified families of the incident. There was an increased law enforcement presence throughout the day at the Menomonie Middle School and other School District of Menomonie buildings out of an abundance of caution.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Menomonie Police Department was notified of an additional and unrelated possible threat directed to another unspecified school. Through the course of this investigation, it was determined that a local student provided remote access to a personal device to another individual who does not reside in the Menomonie School District. This individual was identified, and the law enforcement agency of the jurisdiction in which they reside was notified and promptly made contact with the individual for further investigation. This threat was also determined to not be credible.
