As it has for over 30 years, the Menomonie Optimist Club continues to honor outstanding Dunn County youth each month of the school year as the Youth of the Month. For October, Jack Drout of Menomonie High School, was the honoree.
Jack Drout’s favorite classes at Menomonie High School are math and chemistry. Jack is a member of the National Honor Society, is president of the Student Council for his class, serves on the Link Crew to help underclassmen more easily adjust to high school, and is an active athlete on the football, hockey and track teams. Jack has been captain of the football and hockey teams. He works during the school year as a referee for the youth hockey program, and in summers at Wood Wind Park near Wheeler. Jack plans to attend the University of North Dakota to major in commercial aviation, aspiring to be a commercial airline pilot. Jack is the son of Keila and Brad Drout.
In addition to the Youth of the Month program, Menomonie Optimists also sponsor the Dictionary Project, delivering dictionaries to every third-grade student in Dunn County, organize and conduct the Menomin Meander, a family-friendly bike ride in August, and conduct work projects with area school students at Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area.
