Phyllis A. Alf, age 92, of Menomonie, WI passed away on January 9, 2025, at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie while surrounded by family.
Phyllis was born at home in Spring Brook Township in Dunn County on November 2, 1932, to Alta (Gardiner) and James Keith Donnelly and was fourth in a family of ten children. She grew up in Dunn County and graduated from the Dunn County Normal and Agricultural School.
On May 28, 1955, Phyllis married Frederick W. Alf, Jr. The family had three children, Melody, David and Gary. She was a member of the Caddie Woodlawn Chapter of Dunn County Extension Homemakers and enjoyed crafting, knitting, sewing and baking. For a period of time, she baked wedding and other specialty cakes. She was known for her cookies, and it was a prized treat to get a bucket of them as a gift for a special occasion. She also enjoyed weekly family lunches at Exit 45 and monthly card club. Her door was always open, and everyone was welcome in her home. Her greatest joy was being a parent and grandparent.
Phyllis is survived by two children, Melody (Gary) Gossett and David (Kristine) Alf of Menomonie, WI; three grandchildren, Schuyler Alf and Justin Alf of Menomonie, WI and Jessica Alf-Lewallen of Portland, TN; three great grandchildren, Hailey Alf, Ava Raak and Elliot Gruber; four sisters, Valerene (Kenneth) Johnson, June Braford, Helen Christianson and Susan (Arthur) Alf; one brother, Loyd (Karen) Donnelly, sister-in-law, Judy Alf as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; infant son Gary; grandson Sean Alf; sisters Grace Hurlburt, Essie Donnelly and Ruby (John) Miller and brother Richard (Joyce) Donnelly.
The family wants to thank the staff of the American Lutheran Home, St Croix Hospice and Red Cedar -Mayo Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Forest Center Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Crites officiating. Visitation taking place prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be immediately following the service at Forest Center Cemetery, Township of Spring Brook, Dunn County, WI.
